Shadow Part 1

‘Going to Korin’s party is so boring. And she actually organized a party without food. ’ I sighed, while munching a chicken wing under the hot afternoon sun.

‘Maybe it will be fun. You will never know..’ Rena said absentmindedly as she eyed on my chicken wing. ‘Hey let me try it. It looks really tasty.’ And she grabbed the wing from me.

I did not resist and and wiped my fingers nonchalantly on a piece of tissue. ‘Make sure you finish it up. Its freaking saltish..’

We had our lunch in a coffee shop and are on our way to korin’s house.

‘Are you sure this short cut leads to her house directly?’ I looked around suspiciously as I followed behind Rena closely.

It was hard not to be suspicious because we are actually walking in a cave-like tunnel with minimal light and we were accompanied with unusual sounds like occasional muffled laughter, bat screeches and footsteps that are quick and hurried at times, and slow and light at times. The tension caused by the surroundings of the cave is enough for any girl to scream out loud and run back to the entrance.

The calm and steady Rena replied 'Yeah.. I have been to her house for project many times!’

After a walk that seems like a hundred years, I finally saw a beam of light. A great relief washed over me as we climbed out of the tunnel.

‘So where is… ‘ I stopped short. It was a deserted place with only a few houses each spaced far apart.

‘The nearest one there is Korin’s house. ‘ Rena pointed ‘Lets go.. I guess everyone except us is there already’

‘Hey Korin! Hows your par..’ Rena asked cheerfully but was cut off her sentence by Korin.

‘Shh… did you come from the tunnel? I recently heard that something there might cling on to travelers as they walk through the cave. We all saw shadows fluttering around my neighbour's windows last night when you two weren’t here. We heard Uncle Ben's screams and pleas for help and we wanted to go and to help him but Dan noticed the mirror scribbling words. Korin looked at the mirror still scribbled with red words ‘DO NOT GO OUT. LEAVE AT 6PM TOMORROW.’

Korin didn’t seemed to be kidding and my ten other classmates are huddling in a corner. However, I was doubtful about what Korin said because it was simply too non fiction-like. I didn’t want to look like I am easily tricked by them, so I went to the mirror and scrapped a little of the red paint out of the mirror.

‘Isnt this just lipstick? Stop fooling around will ya? Yeah its my fault that I didn’t come for the bbq and stay over last night but I had to work you know. I couldn’t just change my shift last minute!’ I retorted at my classmates.

I expected them to smile at me and quit the act but I saw them looking at the mirror in horror instead. I swept around and looked at my reflection straight in the eye. The words are gone! Lost in eternity, I staggered backwards without meaning to as I caught a glimpse of evil in my eyes. It came as fast as it was gone and I fell to the floor in daze.
